Hi from Joan. I am a 69 year old widow living in central Florida. I want to obtain as much feedback from professionals before I attempt to speak to the service techs at my current provider of air and heat. Although they are the company that installed my system 10 years ago, and that they are the only company that have serviced the unit to date, I don't feel confident at this point in time that all the information they give me is correct. I can understand their wanting to sell me a new unit due to the age of it, but a new unit is out of the question for me; I am presently looking at window air conditioners for my 1200 square foot mobile home(manufactured) this summer if there is no possibility of a heat pump repair. I got through the winter with space heaters, but know this summer will be more of a challenge. Please excuse my terminology if incorrect. I will gladly provide further info on my unit if necessary. I just want to know if there are any options of repair with my unit that are possibly affordable. I appreciate straight forward comments; I am just strapped to a Social Security income only, with little wiggle room. Thank you much.

Hi Gary: thank you for such a fast reply. The model number is: 702BNX036000AB ( Bryant) and the handwriting is good, so I hope number is correct. Actually I don't have a receipt. This is embarrassing. Actually the unit stopped working last fall and I just turned it off. Stupid right? I know I should have at least called them out to check what was the problem was, but again, fearful of a hard push on their part. Maybe I should have a close male neighbor friend be at the house with me when I set up a service call? I appreciate your feedback greatly, and another question. Is there any ball park figure or figures, of what repairs can be on older models? I may not even be able to do that. Thanks. Joan

There's no way without knowing anything about what the symptoms are. Not working is not a symptom. You need to get someone out there before we can go further. Around here a service call and the first half hour is about $94. Not sure down there. Find out what you have and go from there. Freon leaks are easy enough if you have a competent person while someone not so good turns that into a nightmare. If the inside coil is bad you might be looking at $700- $800. Just a blown capacitor on the outside unit should be affordable. Having someone else there is a good idea.

If you are not sure about the company you should check their customer reviews in advance. Amtek air is a well known service provider. If not sure you can check amtek air reviews.
