First off I would like to know if going solar will somewhat drastically lower my electric bill. I've tried a few other AC unit brand names and I cannot seem to maintain monthly low costs on my FPL bill.

I've tried Amana but I seem to have a higher bill than my older AC unit.

If anyone has recommendations on specific brand names for Solar AC units, that would be great!

Any of the companies have excellent high end units. A 13 SEER unit is the minimum. It will impress you for a short while since it's higher by 1 to 3 SEER points then what you have now. If it's not doing better the installer did something wrong. It's not the brand. It's the installer. If you want to impress yourself get a 2 stage, 16 SEER or better air conditioner or heat pump.

Your wallets' the limit above that. (water source heat pumps, etc.)

On solar at least in this area the power company here (Ameren) will look at your house and determine if it is worth putting the power cells on the roof. I know one of the guys working with me has it at his home and he's pretty impressed with the bill.

Yes with the solar energy air conditioning, some of the amount of the electricity bill is been reduced compared to the normal air condition.
